I think the boys are letting too many monsters go the last couple of seasons, are they going too soft? John and other hunters probably would not approve.
SPOILERS for newest episode below!
The newest epi, I didn't like them pushing a little too much that Garth is the new Bobby; I get a few jokes but geez. So far I'm meh about Amelia, she is not very compeling.
I don't know why they are once again going the boys butting heads thing either. They always will!

I feel the same way about Amelia. I think Sera stuck Jeremy in an awkward situation because he had to figure out where to go with the storyline. Perhaps he felt that he had to have Sam doing something if they were going to keep Dean in Purgatory for a year. It would make sense to me that it would take Dean a while to get out of Purgatory and since at the beginning of the last season they gave Dean a year off they felt they had to reciprocate with Sam? So they stuck him in a relationship which given how much Dean depends on Sam and vice versa, I can understand Dean being pissed off that Sam didn't bother to figure out where Dean was. But I think I would have preferred them starting the season showing Dean in Purgatory and trying to get out at least for a few episodes and splitting the episodes showing Sam going through whatever catharsis he was going through. And then getting them back together so that we could understand why they aren't getting along again.

Today will be my first opportunity to watch the most recent episode. Not a big fan of Garth, don't hate him, just don't get the big deal.
I think Amelia is unnecessary. If a woman was going to be the reason Sam got a life...which I'm ok with...they shouldn't have made her so unlikeable. Except for that birthday memory, our first encounters with her where seeing her be unnecessarily mean to Sam. She made a bad first impression on me, there's little she can do to come back from that. I don't care what her problem is, at some point, own your stuff and stop taking it out on other people...there's nothing about their initial encounters that should've even made Sam want to stick around her.
I really don't care what happened in purgatory. I think that, like hell, should've been one of those places they tried not to dramatize because they can't do it justice. I see the scenes and I don't feel any ramped up peril, nothing more ominous or dangerous or anything. It looks about as scary as Dead in the Water.
I think Kripke needs to again be involved on the direction of the story. I know that won't happen but no one else seems to have an interesting vision for this show. These stories...this season and the leviathans...are not good stories. And now we're getting less of the boys this season, so everything I'd been watching for is now almost gone. If the guys are really that tired, it might be time to wrap the show rather than giving us blah stories and less Winchesters.

Just watched "Southern Comfort"
Didn't hate it...didn't love it. Tired of the same fight between the boys. Sam should get his own car with all the fighting they do, must be awkward to ride around so much with someone you can't stand 60% of the time.
Still no love for Amelia. Her story doesn't fill me with the angst that I'm certain the writers would like it to. And at what point are we going to address that she drinks as much as Dean? Or that Sam up and left her in the dark of night?
Well, I'm at least caught up (except for the last 20 mins of Bitten).

Did she drink as much as Dean? That's how much I paid attention to her character. Amelia certainly isn't a character that can grab your attention and hold your interest. I thought it was because I don't care as much for Sam as I do Dean. I guess i learn something new every day.

FINALLY! AN EPISODE THIS SEASON I LIKED!
I was scared it wasn't going to happen. It wasn't perfect, but it's definitely the best one so far, IMO. I did think that confrontation between Dean & Cas (I refuse to spell it with the second 's', I don't care what the CW is doing) was a bit lame; first off, I saw it coming...I figured that was going to be the case, or that Cas would lie and say it was to make him feel better...but either way, it was kind of anticlimactic, I thought. And purgatory still isn't interesting me...there's just nothing going on there that seems as extraordinary as one would think purgatory should be (and as they are trying to make us believe it is).
Thankfully, I found Kevin's mom more engaging than last time she appeared. This was just a better episode, interest-wise. I'im not even going to delete this one...so far I've deleted the rest right away because I knew I wasn't going to watch them again, this one I could see again.
Every time Amelia has appeared, she's either making a drink or there are empties around her r she's pouring a drink. Not sure when they're going to make that an issue but I'm assuming they are going to otherwise it makes no sense to make that a trait. I'm sure a confrontation is in Sam's future because of how he snuck out.

SPOILERS
Awwwh, Cas missed television. He may have a problem! Good to see the wings again and he cleans up nicely!
I figure angels aren't supposed to be in purgatory since Cas seems to have been the only one otherwise Zachariah etc. would have been there. The angels are up to something, they didn't get Cas out only cuz they are nice!
Crowley seems to get meaner now and not as witty/funny IMO. Mrs. Tran is okay but her naΓ―ve bumbling is gonna mean more and more trouble. I hope Garth keeps her/them under control. I wonder if the angels will fine Kevin and take him; I also wonder if Chuck is dead or if the angels took him or if he is hiding. I wonder if that is all we will ever learn about him.
I think with purgatory they kind of painted themselves into a corner like when Dean went to Hell, they can't do it justice special effects wise so they get them out of there quickly and move on. I do like the way the Leviathans materialize in Purgatory, kinda cool.
Instead of Sam meeting Amelia they could have had Sam team up more with Garth or another hunter which would cause conflict with the 3 of them once Dean returned. It would be something different, Sam being used to being in charge instead of it being the oldest brother and them butting heads once Dean came back. I guess though that is similar to when Sam was working with the Campbells.
They probably could have done something other than the Amelia storyline, I don't mind her that much but I'm not in love with her. I am more interested in the dog LOL.
I wonder if Amelia will end up having to do with Crowley, he knew Sam was all alone for the year, I hope Sam checked her out. Hmmmβ¦

I think if Amelia had started so unpleasant, I could deal with her. I've never disliked a female on the show until her. I'm waiting for her to redeem herself but so far, it's not happening. I hope they drop her except for flashbacks but I feel like she's going to have to come back to close off that relationship, especially if this is the last season. I could do without seeing Garth again. I don't hate him but he doesn't really add anything for me. It's not like a Bobby is needed. In the beginning, we were given the impression that the relationships that the boys (& John) had, were kind of unique: hunters were mostly solitary, they had connections but it didn't sound like they all depended on Bobby or had their own "Bobby". I know Bobby was a device for the writers, where if they needed a quick answer or some exposition, they could go to Bobby...but it was believable since Bobby was older and doing it longer. Garth shouldn't really contain the level of knowledge Bobby had so it's hard to buy he'd be a goto for anyone who had been doing the job. I'd like to see the boys go back to the days when they did the job based on their own wits. It seems the older they get, the more they depended on Bobby or someone else. There was the time without John and before Bobby and they did just fine. I hope they can go out great.

*coming in here with eyes closed* I'm embarrassed to say that I'm 3 episodes behind of SPN. With the wedding and Mexico...I missed 3 epi's! If I had a minute to myself so I could watch it! I need to catch up.

I think Garth has used knowledge Bobby taught him and didn't he say he had some books or whatever of his too? I agree, though, they don't need a go to guy, it kind of seems like the Roadhouse a bit LOL. Hunters are solitary ornery types! Sam and Dean know more than Garth ever could! I don't mind him so much though.
